Symphony House Condos

These floors are coming along quickly. I can barely see the Drake from the southeast.

And look how high that crane goes. It's going to be thirty-one stories.

Wondering what Philly looks like from high above? Brad from Philly Skyline likes to get high so we're in luck. Some wonderful shots from way up above Center City.

1352 South St

The condos going up at 1352 South St are well on their way from this shot from January 20th. The windows are huuuge. They're lofts. It's gonna look nice. Only five floors tall when it's going to be done.

I can't remember what used to be in that lot now. Whether it was empty since we moved east of Broad about six months ago or what.

Ardmore, A Village at Risk

There's a battle going on just over in Ardmore and the Save Ardmore Coalition have been fighting like hell for their community which is at risk. In conjunction with Scribe Video Center, they've put together a short documentary which will be showcased next Tuesday. Some info:

The Save Ardmore Coalition's 8 minute documentary "Ardmore, A Village at Risk" will be featured at Scribe Video Center's upcoming screening of 4 documentaries produced through its Precious Places Project. All of the documentaries focus on the use of eminent domain for private development and the threat that it presents to the existing community. The video documentaries are the Save Ardmore Coalition's "Ardmore, A Village At Risk", the Cramer Hill Residents Association's Pride of the Hill, the Community Leadership Institute's The Taking of Bodine: Never Forget and Odunde's The Taking of South Central... Philadelphia.

The screening will be followed by community conversation and discussion about the future of our neighborhoods. This event will be held on Tuesday March 7, 2006 at 7:00PM at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 36 Ardmore Avenue, Ardmore, PA. It is free and open to the public.

I've never been out to Ardmore, but I may be heading out there to see this film and see first hand what's going on just around the way.

What's happening in Ardmore has national significance.

Rindelaub's Row

Well, it's all gone now. I took that shot yesterday evening.

And when I went to take a closer look at the gaping hole in the ground which was once a historical site, I saw the above sticker and it made me chuckle out lout.

Symphony House Condos

So since the last time I took a shot of the Symphony House condos on Broad St last month, they've grown by two floors. The view of the Drake is almost completely obscured now. Twenty-nine floors later, this thing is going to be ginormous.

Adrian's of South Philly

I got a cool little peek into the Rocky film being made here in Philly early this morning. A reader of this blog [cool!] sent me the above photo with a little background:

I took a walkabout today south of Washington/East area, and popped into Ippolito's for some fish. Walked out, and thought, is there a new restaurant in Victor's? But no, it was just Rocky movie action.

The place has a temporary new awning and sign that reads "Adrian's" - suspicious, yes? So I ask the dude in the street, yo, did they do that for the movie? He says, yeah man. I'm like, hey that's cool, do you mind if I snap a photo? He's like, yeah sure go for it.

1352 South St Condos

And there's a shot of some more new construction, this time on South & Broad Sts. This foundation will support a five story building built loft-style.

I hope they don't fuck with the nice public community garden on the north side of South St across the street from it.

Symphony House Condos

That sucker's gonna be thiry-one stories tall. The view of The Drake [my favorite looking apartment building], which you can still see right behind the crane, will most likely be completely obscured from the south-east, too bad. There's probably more construction/building photography to come with this new wide angle lens, but I'm not the expert Brad over at PhillySkyline.com has The Skinny on all things structural. I'm just here for the ride. No perspective correction on this photo [hence the trapezoidal shape].
