I first heard of Larry Farnese bid for Rep. Babette Joseph's seat in the 182nd District here in Philadelphia via this post on She Flies With Her Own Wings. The wingèd ones had met Larry Farnese and heard that he was running for Josephs' seat and that was enough for them to help get the word and get some eyes on his website to see what Larry Farnese is all about.
Last night Larry Farnese dropped by Drinking Liberally at Tangier [1801 Lombard St] before he headed off to meet some people in a big apartment building on the western edge of Center City, the edge of the 182nd.
Larry Farnese brought along his petition clipboard and he collected a bunch of signatures before he had to leave to his next meet and greet.
I like me some contested primaries.
This is strange, yesterday I checked and the google bomb was working. Today it's buried again. Do you understand what's going on?

well, Babette has had contested primaries the last three times, so it's hardly like a breakthrough to achieve another one this year. and she's one of about, um, two (ok, maybe a half dozen) true progressives in the state legislature. so I wouldn't be too quick to jump onto a new face for newness alone...

It does not make a lot of sense to oppose the legislature's leading prochoice advocate on the grounds that she is not for Chuck Pennachio. We have no evidence that Farnese is for Pennachio either. Many longtime abortion rights advocates are not for Pennachio either for what they consider to be reasons of pragmatism.
Babette Josephs is one of the few elected officials in America who was lobbying for choice BEFORE Roe v. Wade. As the composition of the 2007-2008 legislature is very much in play--almost all of the retiring legislators are anti-choice--we have a chance to gain, or come close to gaining, a prochoice majority in the House for the first time ever. The continued presence of Babette Josephs in the Pennsylvania House is key to making this possibility an actuality.

Never said that she didn't have contested primaries in the past and that I'd be voting for Larry just because he's contesting. It's not always about Chuck.

Wow! I am really surprised about how much could be read into such a simple post. The idea of Google bombing Larry Farnese was simple: We hadn’t heard that he was running against Babette and his site was not readily available. It’s not about supporting him, just trying to figure out who he is and helping others do so also.
As for Babette, it is great that she has been “lobbying for choice BEFORE Roe v. Wade”. But, that is ONE single issue. What is she doing NOW? I voted for her last time around, but in my personal interactions with her she has failed miserably and so, I am shopping around. Shouldn’t we all be investigating our options? Perhaps one these Babette supporters could ask her why she doesn’t reply to my e-mails?

Representative Cohen,
On the issue of a woman's right to choose let me be very clear: I strongly and unequivocally support a woman’s right to choose without exception or restriction. My position could not be more clear. If you take a look at my web site or better yet, just give me a call, you will learn that my campaign is about active, visible and productive representation for the 182nd. Taking the right position on the right issues is no longer good enough. I think the point Anita makes is a solid one. At this critical time, more than ever, we need representatives who can get support across the board so that legislation which is important to all our us is actually PASSED. IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE!!!
