Tomorrow night is a nice night out for hors d'oeuvres and wine at the Warwick Hotel for a fundraiser for Democratic Senate candidate, Chuck Pennacchio. Pennacchio is not taking any PAC money so small donations from his constituents is what keeps the campaign alive. He is not taking PAC money because he refuses to be accountable to anyone but his constitutents. He will not owe any favors to lobbyists from Big Pharma, Big Tobacco, the oil industries, or any other organization who tries to push their weight around with hefty donations expecting things down the line. Pennacchio will represent the ideals of Pennsylvanians when he is elected as Senator.
And a quick run down of his stances on some of the major issues at hand today:
- Iraq: He wants out. He never wanted in. He even wrote up a plan to get out of Iraq months ago available for download here [.pdf]
- Health Care: He is for universal healthcare. He believes that every single American deserves and is entitled to healthcare. One should not have to make a choice between essential medication and bills.
- Women's Rights: He supports passage of the Equal Rights Amendment. He is pro-choice; he believes that abortions should be safe and rare, but ultimately, legal.
- Worker's Rights: He belives in a living wage that is adjusted to inflation; as the cost of living goes up, so should wages. As a professor, he was a labor union organizer and has worked on the ground fighting for his and his fellow worker's rights, he'll do the same as Senator.
- Education: He believes that every qualified student who wants to further her/his education at college or trade school should be able to do just that. He would fight for fuding of programs like Pell Grants and Perkins Loans [I know I wouldn't have been able to go to school without them in 1998 pre-W].
Learn more about Chuck and his family and his path to his candidacy at the campaign website. Or meet him in person Thursday evening from 7p-9p, but if you stay late, I'm sure he will too. I'll be there helping out and undoubtedly taking photos. Suggested donation: $50.
