It's a gorgeous Saturday afternoon at the start of fall — what better place to relax than at the new dog run at the endof my block! There are lots of dogs in here right now, all off the leash with another three bursting in the gates as I type. A black lab, a yellow lab, a chocolate lag, a rottewiler, a german shepard, a golden retreiver, a hound and a collie among others. I don't know where heir wners have taken them in the past, but they seem to all love it here now. Sniffing around the park, exploring the textures, sounds, sights and tastes. All tales are up in the air wagging, excited and friendly eare very one of the dogs. No barking, biting or fighting going on here.
Oh how I love me some dags [as Brad Pitts sputters in Snatch]. I passed by two brindled pit bulls last night. I just learned last night that's what the tiger-striping is called, 'brindles' — I feel so in the know now. I'd love to have one, but the costs of having a dog are not in the budget and I'm not sure I'm up to the responsibilities just yet. Getting up in the mornings to walk them. Darting home after work to feed them. Planning ahead to take care of them when gone on trips [not that we're some jet setters or anything].
The rottie is howling right now as a set of firetrucks race west on Lombard St. It watches on and runs to the far side of the park. The sirens subside. She goes back to discovering.
There are plenty of bins with plastic bags all along the outer fencing. There are several large trash bins for those bags to be dumped. The park is immaculate right now, not to say that it doesn't smell of dogs, but hey, it's a fucking dog run, what do you expect? If you like dogs, you're probably used to that smell anyways. If you own a dog [or dogs] you don't even notice it. I'd say that the bulk of the smell of the run is from the trash across the street — it's behind the Fresh Fields on South St. I think that the only thing missing in this park is a water fountain with a doggie fountain attachment underneath.
I see myself coming here quite a bit in the future.
