We just got back from seeing Good Night, And Good Luck which was absolutely awesome. It is completely in black and white and impeccably filmed. More on the film later.
Our walk back home was on Chestnut St. As we passed Morimoto's restaurant, I was telling Lady how they were opening a new Morimoto up in NYC sometime soon. As we get to the end of the block, whom do we brush by? None other than Masaharu Morimoto himself! Incredible. I was completely awestruck. All I managed was a "Hey!" as we made solid eye contact and he walked by us. I stopped and told Lady how that was Morimoto. She said no way. I told her I'd bet her $100 that he walks right into the restaurant. He kept walking and then waved to someone and stopped right in front of the restaurant to chat with the valets. It was totally him.
He was just walking casually up 8th St and then onto Chestnut in a button up shirt and jeans seemingly carrying an apron folded up in his hand. Hair slicked back in his ponytail, face as flat as it looks on TV. It was really him.
One day, I'm gonna have the bread to eat up in that joint. It'll be the only time I eat sushi/sashimi.
I'm looking forward to your review of the movie. In fact, I may see either The Constant Gardner or Good Night and Good Luck today.

You have to wonder how much time Morimoto is going to spend in Philly once his NYC joint opens.

I'm sure his time will be cut down at first, but I don't think he's going to spend as much time there after a little while. He's already done the NYC thang with Nobu and Nobu Next Door. He doesn't have to schmooze as much as he would if he was starting from scratch without an established name in town.
