On the 1st, Pat and I went to go catch Bumrunner's latest show at The Fire [4th/Girard] up in Northern Liberties. It would be my second time seeing them live and I liked them even more than the first time. They seemed to be more comfortable there at their usual digs instead of at Brownies 38th where I saw them over the summer. I'd say that they're somewhere between metal and rock with a speed bass that I just dig so much. They remind me a bit of Primus, but only with the bass play though. I haven't heard Primus in ages! Oh man did I love them back in Junior High. Back to the night.
So I emailed Sean [the lead singer] to see if it would be okay if I showed up, camera in hand, to snap away during their set. He gave me the green light and off I went to the front of the stage. There were a bunch of people right up front getting into it pretty hard. I took shots for one or two songs then backed off, switched to the other side and took another song's worth of shots. Then, I joined the crowd and rocked out. The first edit of fourteen shots is here. Including an uncropped version of the photo above.
But what about the music? Check out their myspace and get a sample of their stuff [compression's a bitch]. Four songs are up there for your listening pleasure. Their studio sound is noyce, but live, they're killer. They'll be playing at The Khyber [56 S. 2nd St] on Thursday October 20th. Doors open at 9p, $8 cover. If you show up to the show, they'll probably be giving out their demo CD 4 + 1 along with a sweet sticker.
