If you ask me, a meal of cheesesteak and cheesefries is more American than apple pie. Specifically from Pat's King of Steaks. That's how I spent a my late lunch on July 4th. I wolfed down a Whiz wit and an order of super cheesy fries and five or six hot peppers mmmmm.
And oh man were there out of towners there mucking up the streamlined process. Undecided people standing at the window irritating the 'steak makers. My order took all of two syllables: "Whiz wit" and I handed over some bills. It's that easy.
And that reminds me, I went to Jim's Steaks over on South St where I didn't enjoy my 'steak. And their peppers weren't of the hot variety which made it even worse. Pat's has had the most consistently good 'steak I've had in town, aside from Gianna's delectable BBQ chicken cheesesteak which may be my single favorite thing to eat in all of Illy.
Albert, my man, before you lose your car, head up to Roxborough/E. Falls, and get a steak from Dalessandro's. Tourists or lazy people go to Pat's, Geno's or Jim's. People who want the real steak go to Dalessandro's or Tony Lukes.
And they don't get Wiz at either of them!

Abner's is higher on my list of places to try a 'steak and I don't get out to Roxborough, well, ever. And I like me some Pat's.

Well, for what it is worth, it is right by the Wissahickon. So, if you are into the whole excersizing thing, you can run or bike on Forbidden Drive, then head on over and eat four times as many calories as you burn.
And, if you are down in S. Philly, Tony Luke's Cheesesteak with rabe and sharp provolone is ridiculously good.

I generally like Geno's better than Pat's, but they're both great. I'm with you on Jim's -- nothing special.
I haven't tried the cheesesteaks at Tony Luke's -- every time I go there, I can't resist the roast pork, rabe, and sharp provolone sandwich.
Now, I live only a few blocks from Dalessandro's, and I have to say that it's a little hit and miss. I think I like Geno's because they don't dice up the steak (I can't remember what Pat's does). Somehow, it makes it seem more substantial, and less greasy, to me.
One of my favorite steaks is in Atlantic City at the White House...great stuff.
I recently got into cheese steak hoagies...a cheesesteak with onions, lettuce, tomato, and MAYO!
But Albert, if you do want to try Dalessandro's, let me know -- I'm close by, and could meet you there.
In fact, I'm wondering whether it's time for a little Philly cheesesteak bloggging...gather a bunch of bloggers, and have us go out and rate steaks once a week or so. Who's in?

A weekly blogger 'steak rating? Sounds like a heart-stoppingly good time to me.
And Jatin - Come on over to Philly! I'll give you a tour. Maybe you'll be in town for one of these blogger 'steak ratings!
