Albert,

UK police don't carry guns in the normal course of things - if you reported a burglary, the police officer who came to your house wouldn't have a gun, just a truncheon. Only specialist units - the firearms units - are allowed to carry guns, and they respond only to incidents where a suspect carrying a gun has been reported.

A-cha, I was right! Thanks for clearing taht up Antonia.

Mark

Robin Williams (remember him?) used to have a bit where he said if you run away from the gunless police in England they would yell, "Stop! Or I'll yell 'stop' again!"

Antonia

You presume they would be standing still, Mark. It's okay, us ignorant Brits may not have given our cops guns, but we do allow them to chase a suspect and pile on top of him. ;-)

Okay, 5.29 Friday, time to go home. Have a great weekend.

When my assitant director read about this story she had the same reaction. "Do UK police carry guns?" Maybe that why we beat them 200+ years ago. No guns.
