Thanks to some oh so nice heading-out-of-Philly traffic on Friday combined with the normal wonderful NJ Turnpike traffic, I didn't get to the NYC Photobloggers 4 event until 8.15p or so, an 75 minutes after it started. I missed the two photobloggers/presenters I really wanted to hear, but I did get to see about four others which were wonderful.
I got to finally meet some great photobloggers whom I admire like Joe's NYC, Satan's Laundromat and MetroPlus. There were some free drinks around the corner at Merc Bar, but it was rediculously crowded and I had to wait outside for a friend to show up. I missed the chance to meet some more folks and make some new friends, but hey, I hadn't seen my college friend in ages.
The turnout to the event was amazing. The entire upstairs of the SoHo Apple Store was completely packed. Every single seat in the auditorium was taken and there were tons of people standing along the walls and about two or three deep behind the last row of seats. Truly amazing. I wonder if something like that is capable down here. Granted, NYC is several times the size of Philly in sheer numbers, but besides that, are there enough photogs down here? I think so, just a matter of finding them all.
After heading out with folks from Flickr and another time with some other area photobloggers, I think a larger event where we come together to discuss technique, inspirations, gear and all that other good stuff is totally plausible.
The wheels are in motion in my head.
Thanks for the links to NYC Photobloggers. The photos are really amazing. It sounds like the event was a great experience and I can imagine that it's just great to get to discuss ideas with so many talented people. Also, your posts make me realize that I have to plan a trip back to New York, it's been too long.
