Blinq reports that AOL will try to be the MTV of this year's Live event.
The entire event will be carried live, and streamed across computers, free. For the following six weeks, the shows will be available to view on-demand. AOL will be wiring a to-be-determined number of computers along the Ben Franklin Parkway so those attending the July 2 concert can check in on what's been happening in London, Paris, Berlin and Rome shows.Interesting.
I know that the Parkway is already a free wireless area, part of the WiFi Philly plan; it's one of their test areas. I've yet to try out the free WiFi provided by the city just yet. Perhaps I'll head out to investigate them over the weekend? That sounds like a fun project. Hopefully the weather will cooperate; so far, it looks okay for the weekend.
Imagine it, a bunch of geeks, either on laptops with wireless cards or logging on via the AOL terminals, blogging live at Live 8. I don't know if I love it or hate it, at the same time. The geek inside me loves it. How can I hate it?
UPDATE: AOL will not be providing kiosks on the Parkway.
I wonder if Dan [Blinq] will be posting once or twice from the event. It falls right around his wedding anniversary, will he even be around?
Philly Future may be able to cover the event live with press passes, that would be pretty awesome. Keep your fingers crossed.
Anniversary thursday. concert saturday. how do you remember that? anyway, i'm going to be doing a massive brain whiz, starting blogging about 8 a.m. and staying until the bitter end. someone will have to slip me the names of toby keith's songs.
