Tonight at the Five Spot [5 South Bank St in Olde City], my soccer friend Xande will be peforming. It's a night of Brazilian Soul, his flyer reads.
There will be free Brazilian hors d'oevres from 9p - 10p, Grupo Capuraginga will be performing copoeira, there will be samba dancers, and a Queen of Samba Contest as well. And of course, they'll be serving the traditional Brazilian drink, the . I've had one and they're de-li-cious.
Xande, apart from having a great feel for soccer, is a percussionist/singer/songwriter. From his website:
Native Brazilian percussionist, singer, and songwriter, Xande Cruz, surfaces with rich combination of traditional Afro-Brazilian rhythms and homemade electronic beats and samples. His premier project, Luz, defines his commitment to folklore, urban and melodic sounds. The mix of percussion and electronics, horns, vocals, and guitars surpasses genre boundaries and redefines Brazilian music.I'm eager to hear his sounds. I'm most likely going to head on over there for the show. I've never seen a show like this before. I'm also going to be taking photos of the event as well, I've received the official okay from Xande just now to do so.
Doors open at 9p and it'll be $13 to get in.
