Today is twelve days until the Democratic primary, May 17th. Today is the third day of online action that a bunch of us Philly bloggers have come together to help bring some noise to the Seth Williams camp.
There has been some coverage in the papers, but I don't think enough for a District Attorney's race. Especially for one with a former employee of the current D.A., Lynne Abraham. Shouldn't this be headline news? Oh wait, I forgot, there's a runaway bride to worry about.
Seth Williams is a candidate who is more qualified than Abraham was when she ran for the office. Seth Williams is more qualified than Gov. Ed Rendell when he ran - and won - many moons ago. What are his qualifications? Well, for starters, he was one of the head D.A.s under Abraham.
He has the endorsement of his fellow former A.D.A.s.
He has the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police, the organization that works closest with the office of the District Attorney.
He has the endorsement of the Transport Workers Union.
His plan for Community Based Prosecution [.pdf] looks and sounds much better than anything Abraham has come up with in the past fourteen years and now she wants to make changes? Only when a smart former prosecutor comes up with some good ideas and poses a threat to her? I'm no lawyer, but if you take a look at his proposal, it should make sense to you too.
But what can we all do before the election? We can all spread the word. Send an email to your friends, co-workers and family. Leave a comment on someone's blog. Write on your own blog.
You can also pledge to vote for Seth and help get some real numbers behind the articles and the buzz.

seth will lose with this kind of attitude; i'll be voting against him, whether he is aligned with th street regime or not, just alone based upon how snide his supports are treating us inquisitive folk.

I was at the FCA meeting. A few points, none of which is the clear cut answer you are looking for.
1. Seth spoke first and acknowledged Sharif as a fellow Central High grad.
2. When Lyn spoke, she began by acknowledging Sharif in the room, as well as other young people with whom she has worked and said that they are the future leaders of this city and that the future is bright (I'm paraphrasing here).
Political pleasantries aside, I was actually much more interested in their ideas for the office.
3. Sharif has been to FCA meetings in the past - this isn't the first one. He recently was there with the developers of the 26th/Poplar project when they made their community presentation.
