I've been wearing New Balance sneakers for about five years or so methinks, maybe more. I started off with the 990 and ended up wearing them bare. And when the 991 came out, I searched the internet to find pairs of my beloved 990 because the fit was slightly better. I found one pair and wore those bare as well. Then I had to give in and get the newer 991.
I'm on my second pair of 991 now, I just bought a new pair at City Sports and a pair of 707 for an additional measly $25 with their crazy buy one full price, get one for $25 deal. They have a line and underneath about three rows of shoes going the length of the shoe wall that can be purchased for an additional $25 with the purchase of a shoe above said line.
I plan to use the 991 as my running shoe and the 707 as my shoes for playing ultimate when the time comes [hopefully this weekend!].
The 99x series is the most comfortable shoe series I have ever tried on in my entire life. One factor leading to this coveted status is their different widths. I have Flintstone feet: wide and flat. I wear a 9 2E for my 991 and a 9.5 D in my 707 which translates as low as an 8.5 2E in the 990 and as high as 10.5 in Nike [when I used to buy Nike]. I love the widths. I don't see why more shoe companies do this. Don't they want their customers' feet to sit as comfortably as possible? I guess not, it would cut a few percentage points too many into their profit margins I guess.
Anyways. If you're in the market for a new running shoe or just a general comfortable shoe, I'd suggest the 991. And if you live by a City Sports, you can use this coupon for 10% off any non-sale item. But I'd suggest picking up an additional shoe for $25 from below the line, you really can't beat that deal.
