D70 as an Infrared Camera

I just came across this article on how to convert a normal Nikon D70 into an infrared camrea without the use of a screw-on IR filter which requires long exposure times with a DSLR. Reading through and looking at the photos made me queasy, I'm not kidding.

It just seems cruel and unusual, doesn't it? I've seen this page before and had the exact same experience. When I think about how difficult it already is to keep my sensor clean, the idea of taking the camera apart seems horrible!
