While I'm not the biggest reader nor will I ever be, libraries are a very important part of our communities. I'll be there showing my support for the libraries of my newly adopted City of Brotherly Love. Bring your library cards and your cameras! I'll bring my card and my camera for sure.
Maybe instead of spending millions on adding an unnecessary wing to the central library branch they should invest that money into keeping the rest of the branches open and staffed.

As an ex-philly-gal I've enjoyed this trip down memory lane. I visited a number of the photos of neighborhood libraries I remember, or thought I might, from growing up in Philadelphia. I remember the Chestnut Hill branch, the others I checked just 'looked familiar,' but my favorite branch, the one I always went to as a child is no longer in existence: the charming Vernon Hill Park branch (egads, was that actually its name? Vernon Park? Vernon Hill? I can't BELIEVE I've forgotten!) It was very sweet, just off Germantown Avenue, about a block north of Chelten Ave. Many times I walked through the little park to the library. Also, I often went to the Germantown Friends' Library on Gtn Ave. It was closer to home. So glad you are enjoying Philadelphia. I still have very deep feelings for it.

And the coolest thing about the Philadelphia free Library is that you don't have to live in the city to get a card. If you work or go to school in the city, you're in. Pretty cool.
