I was just reading my hometown newspaper and came across this story of how a local college, down the street from where I finished up school, is helping our soldiers abroad.
Over 100 Manhattanville College students sent letters and care packages to people halfway across the world who they didn't know and may never get to know. Powdered Gatorade, Chef Boyardee, socks, sunscreen, lip balm, whatever helps.
Reading it made me realize that with all of this heated political action here, I've forgotten about the soldiers abroad who are abroad, fighting and risking their lives, when they should be here, with us. I haven't done anything to help them.
Watching Last Letters Home a few hours ago was just heartbreaking and got me started to think what I could do to help these kids over there. I don't think I'm ready to talk about the film yet, I need to digest it, but I will say that it was amazingly moving. If you don't have HBO, find a friend who does, it will be re-aired quite frequently in the coming months.
If you're around Philly, I'd be more than happy to watch it with you. I have a seat on my couch and a box of tissues for you too.
