Letterman and O'Lielly
I read that O'Lielly was gonna show his mug on network television last night and I couldn't resist. I couldn't believe that David Letterman was gonna have this punk on his show. I didn't know of O'Lielly having a new book or a new paperback to hock on us, but I wanted to see it anyways.
Me, Lady and her sister sat there watching it all unfold, it was just great. Chris found the video of it.
First off, I didn't know O'Lielly was that tall. I knew he was tall, but he's taller than Dave. I don't think he's as tall as Conan though, un-possible. As usual, he started off being a big fat fucking ham. He was on the show to discuss the "War on Christmas" he helped manufacture. Dave sat there laughing at him saying it was an isolated incident here and there. O'Lielly said that he had more, Dave said that he probably had a million and dismissed him. It was great. And then they started to talk about Cindy Sheehan which got O'Lielly really miffed. Dave was really bullying him around. He initially let O'Lielly run his mouth, but started to cut him off and dismiss his stupid comments.
Then came the best part. They were talking about Sheehan and O'Lielly was saying how he wouldn't let a person who calls the insurgents who kill our armed forces freedom fighters as Sheehan does [me, I see two sides to this, a US soldier is a freedom fighter to one person and a terrorist to another, O'Lielly refuses to acknowledge this simple idea]. Letterman just put him down. O'Lielly asked Dave something that lead to Dave saying that he didn't watch O'Lielly's show which got a roar out of me. O'Lielly just looked stupefied. He then went into his, "Well, watch for a 1/2 hour, you'll be addicted, we'll send you a hat" routine which Dave just waved off and told him to send Sheehan a hat. That was my favorite part. Duncan and Chris favored the priceless line:
I'm not smart enough to argue with you point to point but, I have the feeling that 60% of what you say is crap.That lead O'Lielly to ask incredulously if Dave had ever seen the show which lead to Dave saying that he had never watched The Factor at all.
I've never seen Dave so focussed and serious before, it was quite alarming and refreshing. After all these years, Dave still has yet to reveal all of himself to his fans. I'm glad he opened up a little more to us and used O'Lielly as the key.
* * * UPDATE * * *
Oh yeah, and O'Lielly lied on Letterman, Media Matters informs.

I'm a big Dave fan, and I recall his first show back after 9/11. It was an hour of Dave looking into the camera and just talking about what this country means to him, what the city means to him, and how upset he was.
It was one of the best moments of television I have ever seen.
It was great to see O’Reilly on a show with someone with as strong a personality as he has, so that an actual conversation ensued rather than the usual shout match.
All hail Dave!

oh my god. i really can barely keep down my food when i read things about o'reilly. how can he make these crazy statements and get away with it? i'm so glad dave stuck it to him. but even then, it's frustrating, because o'reilly just doesn't respond to the accusation that he's a bald-faced liar. he just talks about something else when confronted. ugh.
