In an everquest to find what's cool, hot and edgy Sony has taken to a series of graffiti'd walls to spread the appeal of their PSP [I think the PSP looks dopey]. Philadelphia is one of the markets they've targeted according to this Wired News story.
The Wired story also points to the outrage the graff pieces have caused as several pieces in San Francisco have been defaced.
The shot above is from outside a pizza joint on South and 12th Sts. There's a tattoo parlor on South St and 13th St. that has an almost identical piece as well. That parlor has had other art there as well.
It's not guerrilla marketing though, it's paid for by Sony. But nothing more than chump change though.
Casa Maria was paid $100 for two weeks' use of its wall, according to co-owner Mario Arana.I wonder if Sony will pay for the removal and repainting of the walls afterwards. And what about the ensuing anti-Sony graffiti that may sprout up on that wall after they leave?
All the PSP artwork I've seen up on my flickr.
