Biking to Work
I biked to work today, for the first time this week. Rain had been threatening for the entire week so I took the train. But it was not supposed to rain, so I put on some shorts, strapped on my helmet and off I was. On my way to work, I passed several gas stations. The last three on 46th St just south of Chestnut and on Chestnut St had the following prices: $2.99, $2.83, $2.87 for regular unleaded. Premium was well over $3 at each spot.
There is a massive gasoline/oil shortage now. It's only gonna get worse. Waaay worse. I couldn't agree more with Chris more when he writes:
As always, I encourage you to live within walking distance of most of places you need to go on any given day, such as work, the bar, the supermarket etc. It’s not just good for the environment, all of that extra low stress exercise is good for your body too. Well that, and then there is this:
Over 10 oil platforms and rigs have disapeared from the surface of the Gulf of Mexico, though the number will probably be quite a bit higher by the time all is said and done. That doesn’t even count poor specimens like the one pictured above, which will likely take months or years of work to get back online. This is a problem. While shortages will likely be localized and brief, cheap gas has come and gone.
And I just saw at BooMan Tribune that the number of offshore platforms missing is at least 20.
Walk it. Bike it. Go casual.
