This weekend is the Italian Market Festival. From 10a - 5p on Saturday and Sunday there will be music, food and food. The weather should hold up for a nice weekend so everything should go smoothly.
The Italian Market is my favorite part of town [that I've been to] that I don't get to often enough. All the great food, the bustle and the produce sold right on the street out of crates. It really reminds me of NYC's Chinatown and Little Italy.
I've been to many of NYC's San Gennaro Festival and loved every single one. I'll be at this Festival, perhaps both days, with an open stomach and armed with my camera. I'm gonna assume that all of the great places will have their food outside of their stores at some nice Festival Prices or something. Maybe I can find me a good canoli. I'm partial to the canolis from Ferrara's in Little Italy. I haven't found one I've liked as much. I haven't had a single canoli from the Italian Market yet though. Anyone have a fav? And yes, I'm a total food snob.

Hi there,
I am a former 11-year resident of Philly who is now an expat in a mountain village in the south of Spain (yes, a MAJOR change of scenery). I love checking out your blog to keep in touch w/ what's going on in my old hometown, and your photos are just lovely.
Anyway, I am a total foodie, so I had to respond. You must check out Isgro's on Christian between 10th and 11th. They have been around for 100 years and know how to make a cannoli. And their cakes....if I could ship one here, I would. :-)

I second Rachel on the Isgro's recommendation. Their cannolis are perfection-- light and crispy cones with excellent fillings. I have not had a better cannoli anywhere else.

I will surely try out Isgro's over the weekend. Two recommendations!
